SANTO DOMINGO.– The National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) and the Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf) awarded 32 winners of the Second Inefi School Golf Summer Camp “Swing to the Future”, a competition held at the Isabel Villas Golf Club, with the aim of continuing to expand and integrate the practice of this discipline in the Dominican school environment.
The initiative seeks to break the myth that golf is an exclusive sport, opening doors for young talents from schools across the country to develop in non-traditional sports disciplines.
The event brought together students from public and private schools, who are part of the Inefi's sports initiation clinics and programs, with the purpose of strengthening their comprehensive training and promoting fundamental values of golf, such as discipline, honesty, self-control and mutual respect.
The 32 award winners were recognized in different categories, according to their age and gender (female and male), through an evaluation based on their technical skills, such as swing accuracy ,short game and strategy on the course.
In that regard, the head of Communications at Inefi, Braian Cordero, representing its executive director, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, congratulated the organizers of the camp, as well as the president of Fedogolf, Enrique Valverde, and the president of the neighborhood council, Guillermo Garrido.
Enrique Valverde, for his part, stated that it was a great honor and said he was very satisfied with the tournament results. He also thanked INEFI for its support of the introductory program in this sport.
“I feel very happy and grateful to Alberto Rodríguez and to Inefi for carrying out this initiative that arose three years ago and began as a dream,” Valverde declared.
He revealed that the program will continue to develop throughout the school year and expressed his hope that the students who commit to participating in the practices and competitions will continue to strive, as a champion or outstanding technician could emerge from them in the future.
“Golf can open many doors for each of you, as you can develop not only as players, but also as coaches, teachers, and instructors,” he said.
Valverde thanked the Isabel Villas Golf Club for providing their facilities and for "opening the doors of this course to us, where we were able to successfully carry out this tournament.".
The Fedogolf executive also congratulated the teachers, coaches, and instructors who worked hard to ensure that the students fully integrated into the training sessions, in addition to instilling values such as discipline, patience, perseverance, and honesty.
