SANTO DOMINGO.– The Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) awarded more than 36,000 technology scholarships, during an event led by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, with the purpose of contributing to the academic training of young people interested in technical careers linked to technology.
The event, held in one of the halls of the Presidential Palace, brought together government authorities and experts in the field, including the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who stated that the State is focused on contributing to the development and expansion of this industry.
The official noted that, with the support of the Dominican State, the aim is to further boost the potential of youth, "those men and women who are committed to and part of our future.".
“With the firm leadership of President Luis Abinader, we are moving towards safe harbor, placing ourselves on the paths of the future to make tomorrow a great opportunity,” Paliza said.
The rector of ITLA, Jimmy Rosario Bernard , reported that during this call a total of 40,654 applications were received , of which 36,225 continuing education scholarships were successfully awarded .
Bernard stated that this figure represents an effective response to 89% of applicants, marking an unprecedented milestone for the institution.
What technological areas do these scholarships cover?
According to ITLA, the 36,225 scholarships awarded are intended for strategic programs linked to digital transformation, including:
- Artificial intelligence and data science.
- Cybersecurity and information networks.
- Software development and digital marketing.
- Graphic design and languages.
Promoting STEM careers and female leadership
This initiative significantly expands access to STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as to emerging areas of Industry 4.0.
With a strong focus on inclusion, 51.3% of the scholarships were awarded to women, strengthening their participation in high-value strategic technology sectors.
