SANTO DOMINGO – The transformation of logistics no longer depends solely on new ports, highways, or distribution centers. Now it also involves the classroom. With this vision, the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) and the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) formalized an alliance last Friday to promote the training of specialized human capital in Smart Logistics, a degree program designed to respond to the new technological challenges of international trade.
According to the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), the agreement includes the awarding of 50 scholarships for employees of the institution, who will receive specialized training in smart logistics, automation, data analysis and technologies applied to supply chain management.
A commitment to the logistics of the future
According to the DGA, the objective is to strengthen the technical capabilities of the staff and prepare professionals who can operate in an environment where digitalization, artificial intelligence, traceability of goods and automation are redefining the way customs and global trade operate.
The Director General of Customs, Nelson Arroyo, stated that investment in human talent is one of the pillars for maintaining the country's competitiveness.
“This agreement represents a direct investment in the development of the human capital of the General Directorate of Customs. We are starting with 50 scholarships for employees who will continue their professional development, strengthening their skills in technology and logistics through the Smart Logistics program,” Arroyo stated.
The institution emphasized that strengthening specialized talent will allow for a more efficient response to the demands of an increasingly dynamic and technologically advanced international economy.
Academia and State join forces
According to publications shared by ITLA and GA, the alliance seeks to connect academic training with the real needs of the productive apparatus and the logistics sector, considered one of the main drivers of national competitiveness.
The agreement was signed by Nelson Arroyo and the rector of ITLA, Jimmy Rosario, who agreed on the importance of preparing professionals capable of leading the digital transformation processes that international trade is experiencing.
The university highlighted that the new Smart Logistics degree will contribute to training specialists with skills in innovation, data analysis, automation and intelligent management of logistics operations.
More than scholarships, a competitiveness strategy
According to the DGA, the initiative is part of a strategy to consolidate a more modern institution, better prepared to face the challenges of global trade, while strengthening the Dominican Republic's position as a regional logistics hub.
The entities agreed that infrastructure development must be accompanied by highly trained professionals, capable of leading the technological transformation of the sector and responding to the demands of an increasingly intelligent, connected and innovative logistics system.
