SANTO DOMINGO.- Architect, urban planner and businesswoman, CEO Partner of Construger, Yermys Peña, stated during the in-person workshop “Claude AI for Construction Companies”, at Acrópolis Centers, that “artificial intelligence for construction is not a luxury, it is the present.”
The activity aimed to guide professionals in the sector on the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into their work processes.
Peña gave the lessons on September 9th and 10th, contributing his knowledge and experience to show the participants the possibilities offered by Claude AI applied to this field.
The businesswoman stated that artificial intelligence is no longer a tool associated with the future, but has become a resource that construction companies must begin to use in the present.
“We builders are undergoing a renewal, listening to ourselves to change. We are putting everything we can into it, and it's not the future, it's the present,” Peña stated during the event.
The specialist explained that the workshop was created to support other professionals in the sector in the process of becoming familiar with new technologies and finding concrete applications within their companies.
More than writing emails
Peña emphasized that one of the main objectives of the training is to change the perception about the true scope of artificial intelligence within a construction company.
“Artificial intelligence in construction is not a flirtation, nor a luxury; it is not made for writing an email,” he emphasized.
The architect pointed out that these tools can help reduce the administrative workload and repetitive tasks that teams perform daily.
“It is a powerful work tool that allows you to relieve your team of administrative hours and repetitive tasks, and to be able to compete not only nationally, but internationally,” he explained.
They are expanding the training
The interest generated by the initiative led to an expansion of the workshop's initial program. Peña revealed that the meeting was originally planned for a single day, but it was subsequently extended, and additional sessions are now being considered.
“Initially we had one day, we opened two, and we are already planning to do some more in the following months,” he reported.
The executive added that the intention is to analyze the incorporation of artificial intelligence in a broad way and not limit it to a specific training session.
The challenge lies in changing the mindset
For Peña, one of the biggest obstacles to adopting these technologies is related to the traditional nature of the construction sector.
“We know that the construction sector is one of the most traditional, and that there are many processes involved in changing methodologies or systems,” he said.
The architect believes that the transformation must begin at the management levels of companies, because it is their leaders who have to drive the adoption of new methodologies.
“That decision has to come from the heads of each of these construction and architecture companies,” he stated.
According to Peña, once management embraces the change, teams will be able to gradually incorporate these tools until they become part of their work routine.
The worker will have an AI companion
The specialist predicted that artificial intelligence will eventually become a regular part of professional teams and that its use will no longer be a novelty.
“In the coming years, this will be nothing new; everyone will have their own AI companion,” he said.
As part of the workshop, the expert explained that the creation of hybrid organizational charts for construction companies will also be addressed, with the purpose of analyzing how human capabilities and artificial intelligence tools can be integrated within organizational structures.
New workshops will have a waiting list
Given the demand generated by the activity, Peña reported that there is already a waiting list for the next training sessions planned for 2026.
“We have a waiting list for the upcoming workshops we will be holding in 2026,” he said.
The architect announced that the dates of the upcoming meetings will be shared via a link so that those interested can register and participate in the new training sessions.
