SANTO DOMINGO – The upcoming job market will be unlike anything we see today. In less than a decade, most companies will demand workers proficient in robotics, artificial intelligence, and other technological skills, posing an immediate challenge to the Dominican education system.
The warning was issued by educator Alejandro Llamas López, who pointed out that approximately 86% of companies will require these types of skills in their employees, driven by the advancement of automation and digitization in multiple productive sectors.
In his view, this transformation will force a rethinking of how teaching is done in classrooms, incorporating computational thinking as a cross-cutting skill from the initial levels.
He indicated that sectors such as industry, logistics, healthcare, and agriculture are already experiencing significant changes due to the incorporation of advanced technologies, which is redefining professional profiles. In the case of medicine, he explained that the use of automated systems and technological tools will become part of daily practice.
In this context, the Go-STEAM educational program was presented in the country, promoted by the Aldua Group and the Spanish publisher Edelvives, as a proposal that seeks to integrate the teaching of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through practical projects and the use of digital tools in the classroom.
The initiative includes more than 300 curricular projects and a teacher support model that includes training and follow-up, with the aim of facilitating its implementation in educational centers.
However, teachers consulted agreed that significant limitations persist, mainly in access to technological resources, which hinders a wider adoption of these tools.
Some local experiences show that, even with limited resources, it is possible to introduce programming and robotics in the classroom, although its scope is still conditioned by institutional support and investment in infrastructure.
Experts argue that the incorporation of technology in education should not focus solely on the use of tools, but on the development of skills that allow students to adapt to a constantly changing work environment.
