SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) launched an initiative aligned with the preservation of the environment, in order to achieve 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The proposal, developed by the Vice Ministry of Multilateral Foreign Policy, the Vice Ministry of Bilateral Foreign Policy, and the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), was released this week and is called the “Green Embassies Implementation Guide,” a strategic plan that will be implemented by Dominican embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has committed to achieving a paradigm shift and raising awareness about reducing the environmental impact of daily activities in our diplomatic missions, embassies, and consulates,” said Deputy Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy, Rubén Silié.
The goal is to reduce paper use, eliminate purchases of disposable products, prevent water waste, harness solar energy, promote emission-free transport, provide training programs, and implement other measures to reduce the environmental impact of daily work.
During his speech, Silié indicated that by making this guide available, they hope that all staff members of diplomatic entities will make responsible use of consumable materials.
For her part, the Director of Science, Technology and Environment, Claudia Taboada, said that this guide is only a tool for the application of good practices and encourages each embassy and mission to choose a “Green Leader”, who will be in charge of monitoring compliance with the actions.
