SANTIAGO- After conducting the corresponding studies to ensure that the work is carried out with the necessary rigor, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced the official start of the work to repair the retaining wall that collapsed on a section of Las Carreras Avenue in this city.
The collapse occurred on August 16 of this year, caused by torrential rains in the Cibao region.
The MOPC explained that the process took time to define due to the soil studies that were being carried out to ensure that the repair was done with all the rigor and safety that the work deserves.
Furthermore, they said that the repair is very delicate because the wall is surrounded by commercial buildings and residential apartments that must be preserved, protected, and made more secure.
The tender was published in September and was won by the company Ingeniería Estrella SA, whose teams have been working since last Saturday, and therefore the temporary closure of sections of the avenue that comprise the affected area has been announced.
"We inform the public that we will be starting construction work on the new wall on Las Carreras Avenue in the section that was affected by the landslide that occurred on the north side, north-south side, so we have proceeded to close the section of Las Carreras, which includes from España Street to Antonio Guzmán Avenue," says the Public Works statement.
Although the costs of the project were not reported at the moment, it was said that the work, in addition to the construction of both walls, includes the improvement of the surrounding park and the complete resurfacing and renovation of Las Carreras Avenue.
More specific details about the work involved in the project will be offered next Wednesday.
