LA VEGA.-Video footage taken on January 16, 17 and 18 shows the "arrival of the workers and the place where they begin to chip away at the front part" of the R&S Multimuebles SRL company in La Vega, whose building collapsed, causing the death of one person and leaving several injured by the collapses.
This is part of the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office, even though the company owners denied that construction work was being carried out at the time of the collapse on January 18.
The file requesting coercive measures against Jesús María Sánchez Lantigua and Jorge Alberto Rosario Marte indicates the opposite, and according to the document, the collapse of the building occurred while demolition, modification and structural construction activities were being carried out, which were captured on video.
In addition, they have videos of workers removing debris, digging "deeply" into the front left side, among other remodeling work, according to a publication by Listín Diario.
“In addition to this visual evidence, there is the crime scene inspection report dated 01/28/2023, prepared by Corporal Junior Brito Morel, a member of the Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) of La Vega, through which various construction tools were seized, which allow us to conclude beyond doubt that the aforementioned work was being carried out there,” says the request for coercive measures against Sánchez Lantigua and Rosario Marte.
Similarly, they indicate that the work was carried out without the permits of the Dominican College of Engineers and Architects (Codia) or the Urban Planning Department of the La Vega City Hall, which are the first competent authorities that must authorize in order to subsequently obtain the license for any type of construction or modification.
Among the victims, in addition to Yasiris Joaquín de Jesús, who died crushed by the rubble and the employees Jessica Bueno Reinoso; Madelyn Mercedes Abreu Britoy María Arielina Hernández Fernández, is the Dominican State.
On Wednesday, the legal representatives of the owners of the furniture store that collapsed in La Vega rejected the Public Ministry's accusation.
Luis Feliz, the lawyer for the company executives, described the building's collapse as "an accidental event" and denied that the company executives were carrying out construction work without the proper permits.
“We maintain that this was not the case, that no construction or modification was being carried out inside the property, and we are not implicated in any type of criminal liability on the part of Jesús María Sánchez Lantigua and Jorge Alberto Rosario Marte (owners of the company), that everything that happened was an unforeseen event,” stated Luis Feliz, the defendants' lawyer
