Unplug to switch on Christmas

In the real estate sector, there's a little-discussed truth: the work never truly ends. The market keeps moving, clients contact you at any hour, processes advance without regard for the calendar, and many decisions don't wait until Monday. It's a dynamic, demanding, competitive, and, at the same time, profoundly human industry.

Christmas Eve is approaching, and I think about all the people in the sector who will arrive at the table with their heads still in work: reviewing numbers, calculating closings, visualizing projects and responding to pending messages.

I think of children who will see their mother or father physically present, but emotionally elsewhere. I think of couples who will talk without conversing, of families gathered without real connection, and of sincere hugs that fail to penetrate an exhausted mind.

Every week I observe how many professionals live with their phones constantly on, burdened by the expectation of always being available due to a silent fear of missing an opportunity if they stop. While this pace demonstrates commitment, it also highlights the risk of disappearing from one's personal life while achieving professional success.

And given the inertia of clients and investors who don't understand calendars, the pause remains a human need, not a professional luxury.

Christmas is a legitimate time to pause without guilt. It's an emotional, symbolic, and deeply familial season. Although work is still there—and will continue to be—the invitation is to recognize that, at least for a few hours, a boundary should exist between economic closure and meaningful connection.

I've learned that disconnecting isn't irresponsible; it's emotional well-being and a way to give meaning to everything I've built throughout the year. In an industry where speed is the norm, pausing can be a profoundly courageous decision.

This Christmas Eve, many people will have the chance to have dinner with relatives they don't see often, to hug their parents, to look at their children without rushing, and to share a real conversation. That time won't come back the same if it's missed.

Christmas Eve invites us to "ignite our presence" and to remember that professional success loses its shine if there is no one with whom to share it.

The projects will still be there on Monday. The market doesn't stop for a day off, but life doesn't wait either. That's why, more than a Christmas message, this column is an invitation: to truly ignite the spirit of Christmas, you first have to disconnect from the daily grind.

The real estate sector isn't dying, but presence is a choice.

Switching off to switch on to Christmas is perhaps the true way to end the year. And you, what version of yourself will you bring to the table this Christmas Eve?
