SANTO DOMINGO.– Aware of the challenge that environmental issues and the new tourism destination models sought by new generations represent for companies in today's world, APEC University today announced the launch of the Master's Program in Management and Innovation of Sustainable Tourism Destinations, with a focus on supporting programs promoted by international organizations in this area.
“This Master’s Degree in Management and Innovation of Sustainable Tourist Destinations that we are launching today responds to the challenge that tourism companies and organizations face in finding a balance between the environmental, social, cultural and economic environment, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its 2030 Agenda,” explained Enrique Leonides Pacheco Martínez, director of the School of Tourism.
The program aims to train master's students with a high level of managerial skills in academic and professional competencies, focused on the tourism industry. This initiative is part of the institution's mission to offer academic programs with an emphasis on business, science, technology, the humanities, services, the arts, and communication, in order to contribute to the development of Dominican society.
Pacheco Martínez said that the master's program will provide advanced knowledge and skills in the design of tourism products and services, geared towards sustainable destinations, "improving their capacity for analysis, innovation, research and strategic management of destinations.".
Meanwhile, Yahir Asjana Mercedes, a professor at the School of Tourism and the one in charge of presenting the study program, explained in detail the professional profile, as well as the skills that graduates will acquire and be able to develop.
Conference
As part of the launch of the master's program, the conference "Axes of tourism development: Sustainability, Innovation and Digitalization" was held, led by Víctor Manuel Sixto Sanjosé, a professor at the University of Nebrija in Spain.
The specialist spoke in detail about sustainability, types of innovation, digitalization and technologies, the tools used in the process of design, communication, marketing and execution of tourist experiences, as well as other important points related to the tourism sector.
The Master's Degree in Management and Innovation of Sustainable Tourist Destinations will be available for the May-August 2023 term. It consists of six terms, 49 credits and 16 subjects.
