SANTO DOMINGO.- With two keynote lectures on construction and transportation, the 5th National Congress of Engineering, Architecture and Surveying of the Dominican College of Architects, Engineers and Surveyors (Codia) will be inaugurated next Thursday the 23rd of this month, at six in the afternoon.
The first keynote address will be given by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who will address the topic "The Dominican Republic's Post-Pandemic Approach: A Look at the Construction Sector.".
Ydanis Rodriguez, New York City Transportation Commissioner, will deliver the second lecture entitled “NYC a Model of Efficient and Safe Transportation.”.
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, has been invited to the opening ceremony, which will include a blessing from Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte, Bishop of the Diocese of Our Lady of La Altagracia, Higüey.
The welcoming remarks will be delivered by engineer Carlos Eligio Mendoza, coordinator of the congress; and Leste W. Arriendell Severino, regional president of the East; while the opening speech will be given by Dolores Núñez, national president of Codia.
The event, which will take place at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center, will feature a series of topics including the environment, climate change and natural disasters; seismic vulnerability – earthquake-resistant structures and building pathology.
Also, energy, alternative sources, generation, distribution and expansion plans, quality, regulation and marketing of fuels, roads and mobility, water resources, basin management, drinking water supply and sanitation.
Similarly, the experts will address land use planning, housing and human settlements, the single window for approval of private projects, licenses and construction permits, and the draft amendment to the law on purchases, contracts and concessions of the State.
The importance of land surveying and the use of Geodetic and Geomatics technology for the prevention and mitigation of natural disasters, and support for the electrical, water, and sewage networks, are also part of the portfolio of topics that will be taught.
In addition, the national quality policy in engineering and the industrialization and management of agricultural products will be discussed. The event will continue until Sunday the 26th.
