PUERTO PLATA- During his tour yesterday of Puerto Plata, President Luis Abinader led the inaugural ceremony in the municipal district of Maimón for the five-star hotels Playa Bachata and Senator Puerto Plata, which will provide 1,500 direct jobs.
José María Rossell, president of Senator, the company that owns the chain, assured that both complexes constitute a new attraction for the offerings of Puerto Plata.
In his speech, he urged the authorities to incorporate new routes and commercial flights to the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata.
He cited Miami, USA, and Madrid, Spain, as possible destinations. He also mentioned Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and England.
“No matter how much we spend on advertising and promotion, without flights there are no tourists,” he explained.
The businessman asserted that Puerto Plata has the potential to become the leading tourist destination in the Caribbean. However, he understands that attracting tourists from other markets is necessary.
Abinader concluded his tour in the province of Puerto Plata after participating in a meeting of The Ocean Club, A Luxury Collection Resort project, of the Marriott International chain.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, highlighted the growth of maritime tourism in the country.
He stated that the nation will see record numbers of cruise ship arrivals in the first quarter of 2022. He said that the Taíno Bay terminal alone will receive 28 cruise ship operations in January, another 29 in February, and 33 in March.
The terminal will receive ships from different cruise lines.
