SANTO DOMINGO.- In the Bayahibe area, the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) will allocate more than 50 million pesos for the reconstruction of road infrastructure to strengthen this tourist destination, which is one of the most visited in the Dominican Republic.
David Collado, Minister of Tourism, said that on Wednesday, September 6th of this year, the bidding process will be increased to 202 million pesos for the construction of a public parking lot in that town.
“We have a comprehensive vision to strengthen and invest in tourist destinations so that our infrastructure is much stronger, that is why we decided to pave the streets of Bayahibe,” the official explained.
The intervention in the tourist area will include the restoration of 11 road axes, divided into two zones within the municipality, which will contribute to improving the connection between the different communities.
He also highlighted that the area encompassing Bayahibe Beach will be renovated in a joint project with Casa de Campo and Central Romana, which will transform the area into a tourist model.
“These works are just the beginning of everything we have to turn this destination into a true model, because Bayahibe’s time has come,” Collado asserted.
Ana García Sotoca, president of the Romana-Bayahíbe Tourism Cluster, highlighted the impact the works will have on this destination, which boasts the highest occupancy rate in the country. The project will be managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR).
According to authorities, the first area to be addressed encompasses Franco Expósito Street and the parallel street, both of which connect the town of Bayahíbe to the main highway. The reconstruction will cover a length of 839 linear meters and a width of 6.00 meters, in addition to three connecting sections, totaling 1,257 linear meters.
The second zone will include the reconstruction of the parking lot at the Saona Island dock; the Juan Brito School streets; parallel to the Manantial and the interconnecting streets that will allow access to the main dock area of Bayahíbe.
The Juan Brito School street project includes the reconstruction of two road axes that provide access to the aforementioned school in the community of Bayahíbe, with a total length of 579.00 linear meters and a width of 5.30 meters.
Meanwhile, the street parallel to the Manantial, with a length of 40.0 linear meters, consists of the reconstruction of the road axis adjacent to the Manantial de la Muerte, located in the area of the springs of the zone.
The road rehabilitation project will include 2,590 linear meters of concrete curbs and the construction of drainage channels to ensure proper water flow, as well as signage and lane dividers. The La Romana-Bayahibe tourist destination currently has 5,600 hotel rooms. The average year-round occupancy rate is around 87%.
