PUNTA CANA- Three hotels in Cap Cana, the Sanctuary, Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva, were taken out of service due to the impact of Hurricane Fiona that affected their infrastructure, reported the Playa Hotels & Resorts chain.
Asonahores, the Dominican Republic's Tourism and Hotels Association, assured yesterday that the situation in the hotel complexes was normal and that no significant damage had been reported, only fallen trees and situations that did not impede their operations.
“Guests will be relocated to a sister property or can leave early without incurring penalties,” says a statement echoed today by the newspaper Hoy.
Andrés Marranzini, vice president of Asonahores, said that since Sunday the tourism sector has implemented its contingency plan to avoid major incidents, with a preventative strategy that included calling on other hotels to make rooms available to accommodate tourists, if necessary.

Guests with their own transportation were advised to leave the property. However, those residing abroad would receive assistance from hotel staff, which would operate as a shelter and offer limited services in the restaurant.
“All other services will be suspended,” said Hyatt Ziva and Zilara. Guests unable to depart from the beach resorts as scheduled due to flight cancellations or airport closures will be offered a discounted rate.
These prices are payable to each hotel, even if the original booking was made through a third party. Furthermore, Playa Hotels & Resorts will honor these rates until December 23, 2023, for guests who choose to reschedule.
Guests who were unable to arrive will not be charged if it was due to flight cancellation caused by the hurricane.
