Juan Pablo Duarte y Diez was born on January 26, 1813, in Santo Domingo and died on July 15, 1876, in Caracas, Venezuela. He was a Dominican teacher, military officer, politician, and liberal activist. Along with Francisco del Rosario Sánchez and Matías Ramón Mella, he is one of the Founding Fathers of the Dominican Republic. He conceived and led the struggle of several clandestine civil-political-military organizations, such as La Dramática, La Filantrópica, and the most well-known, La Trinitaria.
