SANTO DOMINGO.-The Dominican Republic's Multiple Banking Association (ABA) and the Latin American Banking Federation (Felaban) will hold the III Latin American Congress on Sustainable and Inclusive Banking in the country, a regional dialogue space with the objective of fostering a shared vision between the financial system and the productive sector on the transition towards an inclusive and low-carbon economic model.
The institutions reported that, as part of this approach, the Dominican Republic Thematic Bond Guide will be launched at the event, an initiative that represents a new milestone in the development of sustainable financing in the country and is promoted by the Superintendency of Securities, the Ministry of Environment, GGGI and the ABA.
Felabán will also award the II Innovation and Impact Prize for sustainability, aimed at promoting outstanding business projects in this area in the Latin American region, within the framework of the meeting.
The III Latin American Congress on Sustainable and Inclusive Banking will cover regulatory frameworks aligned with Basel and the Paris Agreement; innovation in payment methods and digital tools; the role of fintech, the inclusion of the "silver economy" and vulnerable communities, thematic financial instruments, and climate risk management from the banking sector.
Speakers include Alexandre Trombini from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS); Tomás Alonso, Country Manager of Mastercard RD; Armando Paino Henríquez, Minister of the Environment; Joel Santos, Minister of Energy and Mines; among other experts and representatives of local and international organizations.
An agenda focused on meaningful discussions
They explained that this year the congress is distinguished by its focus on the "Banking-Business Roadmap", so emphasis will be placed on the importance of strategic alliances and sustainability for the strengthening of the real sector and, above all, the MSME segment.
"The current context demands the optimization of the value chain, through the adoption of production and financing models aligned with environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria," explained ABA and Felaban in a press release.
They noted that outstanding experiences from Latin America and cutting-edge topics will be addressed through the four pillars of the congress: Regulation and Public Sector, Climate Finance, Financial Inclusion and Social Innovation, and Focus on Companies.
They explained that the event will bring together banking executives, business leaders, regulators, sustainability and technology experts, as well as representatives of international financial entities, on May 14 and 15 at the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino.
In the context of the first edition of this congress in the Dominican Republic, the ABA recalled that it holds the presidency of the Felaban Sustainable and Inclusive Banking Committee for the period 2024-2026, a role from which it promotes dialogue and best practices on these issues.
