SANTO DOMINGO.-The Airport Department (DA) and the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (ONESVIE), will unify efforts to carry out preventive technical evaluations of the buildings of the entire national airport system.
This was established in a collaboration agreement signed between the executive director of the DA, Víctor Pichardo, and the head of ONESVIE, Leonardo Reyes Madera, which also includes a structural evaluation of the building that houses the headquarters of the airport institution and its dependencies.
“The fundamental objective is to carry out the necessary evaluations of the headquarters' infrastructure, and to establish strategic alliances for the design of a plan that can comply with the evaluation of all international airports, domestic terminals and heliports in the country,” Pichardo pointed out.
Reyes Madera commended Pichardo's initiative for its concern regarding the preservation of airport infrastructure and the institution's buildings, noting that such actions can make a difference. "We must be aware and proactive, because prevention is the cornerstone of the country's security," he added.
The agreement establishes as commitments of ONESVIE, to carry out a geotechnical study to establish the conditions of the subsoil where the buildings and dependencies of the institution, the airports and heliports are supported.
Likewise, an architectural and structural survey, with verification of the structural elements and preparation of the plans, if they do not exist; as well as destructive tests: “taking samples of slabs, beams, columns and concrete walls in the buildings”, among others.
Meanwhile, the DA commits to providing the necessary logistical and financial support for the detailed technical evaluation of the administrative buildings, the airport system, and any project carried out by the institution.
