They sign an inter-institutional agreement to strengthen the National Geodetic System

SANTO DOMINGO- The Judicial Council, through the Real Estate Registry (RI), signed an inter-institutional agreement in which several entities committed to establishing and developing cooperative relationships in the management of the networks that make up the National Geodetic System.

The purpose of the agreement is to expand the Dominican Republic's Satellite Geodetic Network, and it is also projected that by 2023 new Continuous Operation Reference Stations (CORS) will be integrated in order to densify the network and guarantee service to surveyors who use these services for the execution of their work.

The National Geodetic System is the basis for carrying out the acts of parcel surveys that are presented to the Regional Directorates of Cadastral Surveys, since it allows giving parcels a location with sub-metric precision through georeferencing and calculation of the coordinates of the vertices.

The agreement is an initiative of the José Joaquín Hungría Morel National Geographic Institute (IGN-JJHM), an entity attached to the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), and was signed by the main actors linked to the system.

It was signed by the Judicial Council, the MEPyD; Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC); Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA); the Foundation for the Establishment of the Network of Permanent Stations of the Dominican Republic, and Geomedición, Instrumentos y Sistemas, SRL (GIS).

Through this initiative, the parties involved will create an instrument for citizen and institutional participation in collaboration, control and policy building of the National Geodetic System.

“For the entire Judiciary, for the RI, and especially for the National Directorate of Cadastral Surveys, headed by surveyor Ridomil Rojas, this inter-institutional agreement that we signed today represents a substantial step forward. It seeks to promote inter-sectoral participation in the Dominican Satellite Geodetic Network, with a view to standardizing, developing, and consolidating the national geodetic system,” declared Jhonattan Toribio Frías, general administrator of the RI, representing the Council of the Judiciary (CPJ), during the event held this week.
