The work is scheduled to begin in October
SANTO DOMINGO. The executive director of the Dominican Port Authority, Alejandro Campos, announced that remodeling and upgrade work on the Port of La Romana will begin in October.
He explained that the project was awarded in August and that the legal procedures and certifications required by the Comptroller General of the Republic are currently being completed.
During a tour of the facilities, the official noted that the renovation aims to improve port conditions and strengthen security in the eastern region.
“This is a highly anticipated and extremely important project. Beyond the commercial operations, the main point here is safety,” Campos said.
In that regard, he emphasized that the port is a strategic point for commercial and tourist operations in the area, as well as supporting the security work carried out by the Armed Forces.
They highlight the tourism growth of La Romana
Campos also highlighted the tourism growth of La Romana and cited Central Romana's investments in the cruise terminal, which have allowed it to receive large ships.
He also mentioned the agreements with the MSC line for new investments in Catalina Island, as well as the handover of the dock in that area.
Authorities highlight the importance of the project
The commanding general of the Dominican Republic Navy, Vice Admiral Juan Bienvenido Crisóstomo Martínez, stated that adequate port infrastructure will allow for the reinforcement of patrols and surveillance of the coasts of La Romana.
For its part, the Specialized Port Security Corps (CESEP) reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of the facilities and compliance with international port security standards.
Mayor praises port renovation
The mayor of La Romana, Eduardo Kery, expressed his gratitude for the project and noted that it was a request that various sectors of the province had been making for years.
The trustee argued that these types of projects have a direct impact on commerce, tourism, and the safety of La Romana residents.
