Carlos Slim Helú is the richest man in Mexico. Forbes magazine places his current net worth at $78.9 billion. In 2021, he ranked 16th on the list of the world's wealthiest people. He is the honorary chairman of América Móvil, the largest telecommunications company in Latin America.
Besides being an investor in the telecommunications industry, he is one of the most powerful figures in Mexican real estate. Inmuebles Carso is one of Slim's many real estate companies. This Grupo Carso firm is dedicated to the investment, construction, and renovation of commercial, residential, cultural, healthcare, educational, and sports projects. Its most emblematic building is the Plaza Carso mixed-use development, which includes offices, residences, a shopping center, and the Soumaya Museum.
Forbes notes that Slim Helú and his family own América Móvil, the largest mobile telecommunications company in Latin America. With foreign telecommunications partners, Slim acquired a stake in Telmex, Mexico's only telephone company, in 1990, which is now part of América Móvil.
