Sweet Aurora needs your helping hand to walk with her

St. Mary's Medical Center in Miami is the hospital where little Aurora will undergo surgery. Her family needs to raise US$350,000 to cover the three surgeries and the therapy process that will allow her to walk.

SANTO DOMINGO- Aurora Marie Pérez Lizardo is a sweet 15-month-old baby who was born with a congenital deformity in her right ankle and to correct it requires an expensive operation in the United States, so she needs friendly hands that will show solidarity with her situation.

The beautiful little girl is the daughter of real estate advisor Guillermo Pérez, of Key Brockers, who appeals to the sensitivity of his colleagues and friends to support Aurora's cause so that she can walk and live a normal life with her little friends.

“She was diagnosed with Fibular Hemimelia before birth, so she needs three surgical interventions and a therapy process, where she will have to be in the United States for four to six months to complete the rehabilitation and recovery process,” says the father.

Fibular hemimelia is a genetic condition that causes limb malformation. In Aurora's case, it has affected her right leg, preventing her from walking.

Pérez recounts the complex process her family has experienced, as at four months old the baby was also diagnosed with hip dysplasia, an anomaly that was corrected thanks to the placement of a harness (The Pavlik harness is an effective treatment used in babies who have alterations in hip development, especially in cases of hip dysplasia).

Aurora is being treated by Dr. Elizabeth Vidal, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the Corazones Unidos clinic. However, her diagnosis was confirmed and validated by a hospital in Miami, which will be handling her case.

“A series of interventions involving several surgeries are necessary. The first and most important one should take place between 18 and 24 months of age; it's an operation performed in the United States. The diagnosis was made and validated there,” Pérez explained.

The Paley Institute at St. Mary's Medical Center in Miami is where little Aurora will undergo surgery. Her family needs to raise US$350,000 to cover the three surgeries and the therapy process that will allow her to walk.
