SANTO DOMINGO.- With the purpose of promoting more sustainable tourism and highlighting the actions of companies that lead in the preservation of the environment, Grupo Piñero celebrated the second edition of the Los + Ecoistas República Dominicana awards during the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) 2025 fair.
In this second edition, the “Most Eco-Friendly” awards were given to: Grupo Universal, Evergo, Cervecería Nacional Dominicana, Aerodom, Fundemar, Viva V Samaná by Wyndham and Viajes Latina-Vialat; organizations that have stood out for their work in favor of sustainability, according to a press release.
“These companies were recognized for their remarkable efforts in key areas such as the conservation of natural resources, the implementation of sustainable waste management strategies, and their commitment to the use of renewable energy. Through their innovative initiatives, these entities have demonstrated a commitment to environmental stewardship, promoting practices that not only benefit the ecosystem but also foster a more conscious and responsible corporate culture in the face of global environmental challenges,” the document states.
Andrés Roselló, Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Piñero, highlighted the importance of corporate actions in creating more responsible and sustainable tourism. During his presentation, he emphasized that companies' commitment to sustainability is key to fostering a tourism model that respects both the environment and local communities.

“The concrete actions we are promoting today are fundamental to guaranteeing a future in which tourism is a positive force for our planet and its inhabitants,” Roselló stated.
Art as a symbol of commitment
In this year's awards, one of the most noteworthy features was the creation of the statuette presented to the winners. The piece, titled "Electric World," was designed by the young artisan Francisco Toribio Martínez, originally from San Cristóbal, and was the winner of the competition organized by Grupo Piñero, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Center for Handicrafts (CENADARTE).
Made entirely from recycled wire, the piece reflects not only the artist's creativity but also a strong commitment to sustainability. After a serious traffic accident that left him with a severe disability, Francisco Toribio found in art a way to transform pain into hope. His sculptures, primarily made from recycled wire, are an expression of resilience and overcoming adversity.
The young artist has the support of the Lucho por un Sueño Foundation, which has been key to his artistic development. In addition, his mentor, Juan Francisco Puello, who motivated him to participate in the competition and guided him in the conceptualization and creation of his work, has been fundamental to the growth of his talent.
The Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, stated that “Efforts to promote sustainable tourism are essential to ensuring a greener future for our country. It is an honor to be part of this event, which not only celebrates innovation and environmental commitment, but also recognizes those who are actively contributing to the well-being of communities and the care of our natural environment. Initiatives like these are a firm step towards a more prosperous and respectful future for our planet.”.
