Construction work on the Cabo Rojo-La Cueva road, among other works that are part of the Pedernales Tourism Development Project, has experienced significant progress in its execution.
During a supervisory tour alongside the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the Executive Director for Tourism Development of Pedernales (Pro-Pedernales Trust), Sigmund Freund, Deligne Ascención, head of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), stated that the construction of this road and the expansion and construction of the Enriquillo-Pedernales highway are part of a series of road projects being carried out by the government
“These works are part of a set of road works that begin on 27 de Febrero Avenue with Luperón, in Plaza de la Bandera, and continue in Pintura, with an intervention on the 6 de Noviembre highway, the Baní and Azua bypasses, and continue on the Barahona-Enriquillo and Enriquillo-Pedernales highways,” he explained.
He said that the construction of the Cabo Rojo-La Cueva highway consists of 14.7 kilometers in length, with four lanes, two in each direction with a width of 3.50 meters and sidewalks.
A press release from the MOPC indicates that the work is progressing in sections from kilometer 1 to 12, it is paved in two lanes in one direction, the road has drainage construction along its entire length, while the beams of the distributor are in the pouring phase.
Ascención stated that all these works are part of the projects being developed in the Pedernales tourism development hub, which will produce benefits for the entire Enriquillo region and the country.
Meanwhile, Sigmund Freund said that in the coming months the interchange that will connect the Enriquillo-Pedernales highway to the Cabo Rojo project will be ready, allowing safer access for visitors to the various tourist destinations in this province.
