SANTO DOMINGO. – The first stage of the Cabo Rojo port in Pedernales is in its final stages, with no setbacks in its construction, just days away from being ready to receive cruise ships of up to 3,000 tourists.
Although authorities had announced that the first cruise ship would arrive in Pedernales on the 18th of this month, a press release from the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) indicates that the complete finishing of this stage will be finished this month of December 2023, so between the fifteenth of this month and the first week of January 2024, the first cruise ship in the history of Pedernales will dock at this terminal.
Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director, said that this first phase, which is now concluding, consists of 200 meters of dock, plus a mooring point, features that will allow it to receive several vessels at once.
In that sense, this December the terminal will have all the conditions to receive vessels, and the confirmation of them is based on the itineraries of the cruise lines, with the projection of receiving the first one between December 18 of this year and January 4 of 2024, which will represent a transcendental milestone for the economy of the entire Enriquillo region.
The director of APORDOM stated: “On December 18th, we will be touring the pier with numerous industry authorities, business leaders, and members of the press. By that date, the project will be in its final stages of completion, awaiting only the arrival of the first cruise ship, which will undoubtedly take place within the next two weeks.”.
In this way, Rodríguez confirmed that the construction work at Port Cabo Rojo is within the established timeframe.
By highlighting the characteristics of this tourist destination, cruise companies invite tourists on their website and in other media to visit the refreshing and untamed landscapes of the province of Pedernales, located in the southwest of the Dominican Republic, stating that Cabo Rojo in this region is the dream destination for nature lovers.
