SANTO DOMINGO.- The La Romana Casa de Campo International Airport issued a statement last night, Sunday, June 7, informing that the American pilots Erick Javier Diago and Ruddy Ghazal , who died after the private aircraft they were traveling in crashed while trying to return to the La Romana International Airport, were the only occupants of the aircraft.
It states that the incident occurred after the crew declared an emergency shortly after takeoff of the Gulfstream 200 aircraft, registration N318JF, which was headed to the city of Austin, Texas, in the United States.
He explained that the crew reported an emergency minutes after taking off and proceeded to return to the airport to make an emergency landing, but the aircraft crashed during the maneuver.
He said that authorities are continuing an investigation to determine the circumstances that caused the accident, while emergency and security agencies activated the corresponding protocols to address the situation.
In the statement, La Romana Airport extends its condolences and expressions of sorrow to the family and friends of the two people who died in the incident.
He adds that with the activation of the Emergency Plan, the fire department and airport ambulance units, the Specialized Airport and Civil Aviation Security Corps (CESAC), the Dominican Red Cross and other response agencies were present, who came to address the situation and execute the corresponding protocols.
"The relevant authorities are conducting the necessary investigations to determine the circumstances that may have caused this unfortunate accident," the statement said.
Investigation
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) and the Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) reported yesterday, Sunday, that they are investigating the case involving the aircraft registered N318JF, model GALX.
They said preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft declared an emergency when it was about 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana and crashed while returning to La Romana International Airport.
The US-registered aircraft, belonging to an executive aviation company, had its two crew members on board: the pilot and co-pilot. No passengers were reported.
They stated that aeronautical authorities activated the corresponding protocols and are conducting the necessary investigations to determine the causes of the incident. Both the IDAC and the CIAA will provide additional information as the investigation progresses.
