Road Construction Begins: New Duarte Highway Toll Plaza Will Enable 11 Lanes for Fast Passage

The new toll plaza on the Duarte Highway will enable 11 lanes for fast passage

SANTO DOMINGO- The new toll plaza being built by the government at kilometer 32 of the Duarte highway will have 22 lanes, eleven of which will be designated as fast lanes and another 11 for normal traffic.

The new structure will feature a high-tech system that will make the flow of the more than 150,000 vehicles that will use it daily more agile, safe and precise.

"It will have other features, including a traffic monitoring room. It will be the largest; its size is unique," explained the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, during a visit to supervise the progress of the works last weekend.

The head of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) highlighted that the work on the project is progressing well and that it will soon be delivered and inaugurated by President Luis Abinader.

"This toll at kilometer 32, to which we are going to move the one that is at the entrance of Pedro Brand at kilometer 26 towards here, is one of the commitments we have with the relocation of this toll in order to modernize it," the official explained.

He reported that this new structure, together with the expansion of the Duarte highway, will contribute to streamlining and improving the flow of traffic from the northern region to the capital and vice versa.

"We are talking about an entire infrastructure that will have about 22 lanes. As you can see, we are already in the final stage of these works, and this is a routine visit that the authorities of the Ministry of Public Works frequently make to this place to give continuity and follow-up to the works," said Deligne Ascención.

He stated that this major project is part of a series of public works projects that the government has been carrying out through the MOPC.

"These works that the construction company MAR has been carrying out are part of the set of works that are being developed along the Duarte highway, where about 22 projects have already been completed, and this is part of one of those works that is ready to be completed in a few weeks," he declared.

During the tour that took place through the aforementioned tollbooth and the expansion of kilometer 9, the minister was accompanied by Roberto Herrera Polanco, Vice Minister of Supervision and Fiscalization of the MOPC.
