SANTO DOMINGO.– Only one month remains until the most joyful, fun, and family-oriented season of the year: Christmas! The scent of pine upon waking, lights illuminating every corner of the house, gift wrapping, large red bows, garlands, and the sweet aroma of apples and cinnamon are just some of the many details that assure us Christmas has returned.
This year, the colors of each season invite us to let our imaginations soar, to escape from the comfort zone by combining desires for well-being with the joy that characterizes us.
On the other hand, reflecting sustainability in the home has set a trend, so as in other seasons, the use of wood, plant fibers, natural textiles – such as jute and rattan – not only for decoration, but also for wrapping gifts – and recyclable materials will continue to be part of fashion.
What do the Christmas trends suggest? Elegant, delicate, cozy, and sustainable decorations. And in what colors? All of them! From the traditional red and green to the combination of purple and turquoise to create a luxurious space, or black and white for a more sophisticated look.
Red and green are at the top of the list, because as soon as we see these colors we think of Christmas and the joyful family days to come.
For lovers of creativity and playing with diverse tones, some of the trends are:
- Rose gold, when mixed with other shades of pink like pastel or fuchsia and white, creates a delicate and subtle space. You can use it on the Christmas tree or on the table with wooden or gold accessories to add more life.
- Purple and turquoise, two colors that convey strength and energy.
- Gray and black are part of this year's trend, bringing elegance and glamour.
We'll also see the favorite combinations of all years such as the mix and match of gold and silver, all white - or as some call it - white Christmas, blue and gold, bronze and gold, and - of course - the multicolored one, perfect for those who find it difficult to choose just one.
Now, when it comes to the details, styles, and accessories for Christmas decorations, some ideas are new, others are returning, and many remain the same.
Among the decorating styles we will see most are rustic and Scandinavian or Nordic: both with their continuous invitation to use natural and country elements in our home, such as plaid fabrics, natural fibers, dried branches or pieces of trunk and wood, which can be decorated with lights, pompoms, pinecones, light elements and crystal ornaments.
Christmas stockings are making a comeback this year with prints of flowers, reindeer, candy canes, and Santas. Other trendy patterns include snowflakes, classic black and white gingham, and polka dots. We'll be seeing polka dots on poinsettias, tablecloths, and bows.
And, of course, there are elements that will always be part of the Christmas decorations, such as natural centerpieces, homemade garlands, stars (with or without lights) hung or placed on the table; light fabrics such as cotton and linen, Christmas lights, candles that scent every corner and, of course, the Santa Claus figure.
No matter which trend you choose, let yourself be carried away by the beauty of the era and give your space a touch of joy and magic.
