SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported Friday afternoon that it is taking preventative measures for immediate intervention to mitigate potential damage from rains caused by a trough covering part of the national territory, especially the southern region of the country.
A statement from the agency indicates that Minister Deligne Ascención has put all of its agencies on alert, so that a large part of its staff will go with the corresponding equipment, both preventively and for immediate rescue action, to reduce the negative effects of the trough, save lives and property of families and restore the usefulness of the infrastructure that could be affected.
Among the agencies placed on alert by the MOPC will be the Police and Military Commission (Comipol), transportation and equipment, road maintenance, and the regional and provincial departments, guided by the institution's cabinet, which will be in permanent session, led by Minister Ascencion, according to a press release from the Directorate of Communications and Press.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) urged the population to stay tuned to the publications of that agency with new updates on the rains expected this weekend, given the incidents caused by Tropical Cyclone 22, with heavy rains due to cloud cover.
According to the National Hurricane Center, there is a chance that the atmospheric phenomenon will become a tropical storm this Saturday.
