SANTO DOMINGO.– This Thursday, December 4, President Luis Abinader, accompanied by the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Carlos Bonilla, announced the construction of 8,300 new homes as part of the second stage of the Mi Vivienda Program.
During the official presentation, they reported that "the projects will be located in Santo Domingo Norte, Santo Domingo Este and Santiago, and that they add to the more than 20,000 units already delivered or in process, with which the program reaches more than 28,000 housing solutions since its beginning.".
Bonilla explained that this expansion is part of the Ten-Year Housing Plan 2022-2032, designed to reduce the housing deficit, estimated at more than 1.4 million homes in the country.
According to the press release, the new homes will comply with reinforced anti-seismic regulations, in addition to guaranteeing universal accessibility, community and recreational areas, and connection to basic services such as drinking water, electricity and sanitation.
The program is primarily aimed at low- and middle-income families, with financing facilities and partial subsidies, authorities said during the event.
The Government indicated that this second stage will accelerate the reduction of the housing deficit and generate direct and indirect jobs in the construction sector.
Authorities added that the projects also aim to organize urban settlements and reduce informality in construction.
The Government stated that this expansion of Mi Vivienda seeks to accelerate the reduction of the housing deficit, boost access to formal housing, and improve the quality of life for thousands of Dominicans.
