SANTO DOMINGO –The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) reported that the physical construction of the extension of Santo Domingo Metro Line 2 to Los Alcarrizos is 83 percent complete, with 5.2 kilometers of track laid. The project has a cost of approximately RD$33 billion.
Director Rafael Santos Pérez highlighted that as part of the project they are building a service road on the south side from kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway to the entrance of Los Alcarrizos so that it becomes an expressway and decongests traffic during peak hours.
According to the executive, the line covers a stretch of 7.3 kilometers with five stations that will be part of the Santo Domingo Metro-Cable Car Integrated Transportation System.
He explained that after the completion of the work, road safety would increase, user congestion at km 9 would be reduced, and there would be a considerable reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and, therefore, in air pollution.
He stated that at this time they are continuing to lay the rails and are working on the traction substations, installing the stairs and elevators of the stations and starting the facades.
The official stated that the Los Alcarrizos terminal is already 100% complete, which includes the installation of the escalators and elevators.
According to details provided by Santos Pérez, only the integration of this station with the cable car remains to be completed, which -he opined- is progressing rapidly, while the construction of a new "ticketing" station has begun.
Regarding the power line, he acknowledges that only three piles are still needed in the Induveca area, the one with the greatest delays.
He emphasizes that they are continuing to make progress on the piles, pile caps, the placement of beams, and the completion of the protective screen at kilometer 13, opposite La Sirena, at kilometer 9.5, and at kilometer 11.
He assured that in front of Claro (next to Plaza Lama) the work is 100% complete on the pile wall.
"At the kilometer 14 stop, all the piles, headers, trough beams and box beams are fully installed and the installation of the station arches has been completed.".
He highlighted the completion of the pouring of the deck at this station and at some points of the viaduct, while they are working on the metalwork of the station placing beams and slabs and that they have already finished the placement of the roof.
Santos Pérez specified that at the Prolongación 27 de Febrero station, all the piles, piers and triple pile caps have already been built.
The director of Opret pointed out that they are continuing with the roadworks for this station, as well as the completion of the construction of the basement that will house the traction substation.
According to the official, the installation of trough beams and the metal beams have been completed, as well as the installation of arches.
Kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway is one of the critical traffic points in Santo Domingo.
