The Dominican Republic has a population of 10,760,028, according to the X National Census

SANTO DOMINGO - According to preliminary data released this Thursday by the National Statistics Office, the Dominican Republic has a total population of 10,760,028 inhabitants, of which 50.5% are women and 49.5% are male.

Miosotis Rivas, director of the ONE, presented the results of the research carried out in November of last year, noting that this amount reflects an increase in relation to the previous 2010 census of 1,314,747 inhabitants, "which is consistent with what was expected.".

Rivas indicated that of the total population, 5,437,095 are women (50.5%) and 5,322,933 are men (49.5%).

According to the data presented, the National District has a total of 1,029,110 inhabitants, Santo Domingo 2,769,589; Santiago 1,074,684; San Cristóbal 688,828 and La Altagracia 446,060 inhabitants.

According to the census results, there are 4,418,619 homes in the country, of which 3,689,348 are occupied and 720,200 are unoccupied.

Population evolution 

Miosotis Rivas said that during the period between 1950 and 2022 the Dominican population grew 5.04 times, going from 2,135,872 inhabitants in 1950 to 10,760,025 in the year 2022.

He added that the average annual population growth rate between censuses continues to show a downward trend, going from 3.6% during the period 1950–1960 to 1.10% between 2010 and 2022.
