SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS.- As part of its expansion process launched last year and reaching an investment of USD$34MM by 2022, CEMEX recently inaugurated the production kiln of Line 1, at its cement plant in this district, in an event led by President Luis Abinader, authorities, unions, clients and executives.
José Antonio Cabrera, president of CEMEX Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Haiti, stated that this and other strategic actions of the company are implemented within the framework of expansion plans, as a response to its focus on innovation and sustainability to meet the demand of the Dominican market, thus contributing to the revitalization of the national economy and the generation of stable and quality employment.

Víctor Bisonó, Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs (MICM), said that the Dominican Republic is among the preferred countries for foreign investment. "We have a transparent and regulated framework that fosters our nation's growth and economic development," he stated.
Bisonó also highlighted CEMEX's sustainable vision, noting that the cement company supports local talent and products, from its employees and raw materials to its production chain, and congratulated them on their pro-circular economy approach.
The 500,000 tons of clinker produced by the reactivation of Kiln 1 opens a new stage in the expansion process and mitigates the dependence of the local cement industry on economic fluctuations in international markets; while reducing the environmental impact by avoiding CO2 from maritime transport.
Furthermore, the company's next expansion phase, which is already underway, aims to continue increasing production and shipping capacity, and to have the most suitable facilities to meet its commitment to fighting climate change.
To this end, the innovations of the next 5 years will consist of the increasing use of waste-derived fuels, improvement of the additives system in favor of carbon-free raw materials, introduction of state-of-the-art additives and separators that promote better cement performance, and the expansion of the pioneering use of hydrogen as a catalyst, in its two production lines.
