SANTIAGO.-During a tour of the works being built by the Government in this municipality, the director of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) in this Cibao region, assured that by the end of February of this year the works to widen the Cibao Airport section of the Duarte highway from four to six lanes will be completed.
Alexis Sosa explained to Diario Libre that the Dominican government is investing more than one billion pesos in this 7.8-kilometer stretch, and that the work also includes eliminating illegal crossings, providing lighting to sections that require it, adding return lanes, and installing new pedestrian crossings, signage, and paint.
The official also spoke about the retaining walls being built in the collapsed area of Las Carreras Avenue, in the Historic Center of Santiago, assuring that the work will be completed by May and will have an investment exceeding 700 million pesos.
The tour also included the cable car and monorail projects, as well as the sanitation work on the Gurabo stream, the apartments of the Ministry of Housing and the rehabilitation work on the Noriega I and II drinking water treatment plants, whose system will supply water to 70 percent of the population in Santiago.
For her part, the provincial governor, Rosa Santos, highlighted that the government is investing more than 50 billion pesos in these and other projects.
Those participating in the tour included Andrés Burgos, director of the Santiago Water and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan); Andrés Cueto, general manager of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (Edenorte); and Hamlet Rojas, from the Ministry of Housing and Construction. Representatives from various city development institutions also participated.
