Cable car resumes service after maintenance

SANTO DOMINGO. -After carrying out, during the last week, an annual inspection and certification visit of its facilities, to verify that everything is functioning properly and to guarantee the safety and reliability of the means of transport, the Santo Domingo Cable Car returns to its operations today, Monday, April 10, 2023.

This was reported in a press release by the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret), after highlighting that the maintenance was successfully completed as scheduled, during the days of Holy Week, taking advantage of the reduced flow of users on holiday days.

The shutdown of operations was also carried out to guarantee the reliability and operability of the system, in accordance with international standards. With these works completed, Opret assured that the service will be available today, Monday, April 10, 2023, during its regular hours.

The entity noted in the press release that, considering the suspension of the cable car service, to facilitate the transfer of users, Opret provided an alternative bus service from the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA), at no additional cost.

He explained that for this occasion the work consisted of verifying the tractor carrier cable.

“This ensures the reliability and operability of the system in accordance with international standards. This task is carried out by highly qualified personnel as provided by the system manufacturer,” the institution stated.

Similarly, tests were carried out on the functionality of each safety drive mode (control of measurements, sensors and buttons, among others) and the control of the adjustment of the drive modes to validate the regulatory distances between cabins, regulatory tests and controls of weight and control of the clamping force of the clamps.

“These works guarantee the proper functioning of this means of transport, which is used daily by thousands of citizens. This maintenance is carried out routinely, during periods of lower service demand, on all cable cars worldwide,” explained OPRET.

The institution thanked its users for their understanding and reported that, although the cable car is out of service until today, Sunday, a customer service team has been deployed to inform and assist the public.
