SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and the Armed Forces signed an agreement to provide equipment and uniforms to a large staff of the former institution that carries out operational work.
The agreement states that the administrative and operational staff of the different bodies and departments of the MOPC will be provided with clothing such as shirts, pants, vests, jackets, caps, polo shirts, among other garments that will be made by the General Directorate of the Military Industry of the Armed Forces.
The provision is established in an agreement signed last Tuesday, March 14, by the Ministers of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, and of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, and which took place at the Ministry of Defense.
Through this, the General Directorate of the Military Industry shall supply the variety of items that the MOPC considers necessary for the satisfaction of its public interests.
The agreement, endorsed by Law 340-06, on public purchases and contracts, establishes that the items to be manufactured and supplied consist of white Oxford shirts with short and long sleeves for men and women, embroidered on the upper left side with the MOPC logo, according to a press release from the MOPC.
It also includes women's dresses in navy blue gabardine, embroidered on the upper left with the MPPC logo; orange reflective vests with screen printing; waterproof jackets, long sleeves, labeled caps, overalls, collarless shirts, among other items. All pieces will be made in different sizes.
Ascención thanked the Ministry of Defense for the opportunity to continue with the collaboration agreement for the production of parts for civil and military use by MOPC collaborators.
"This agreement has allowed us to provide the members of the Military Police Commission, who do an excellent job for the benefit of the public in terms of security and assistance on our roads," he said.
He said that, due to the success and responsibility in delivering what was agreed, "we have been encouraged to extend to other operational areas of the Ministry of Public Works, to provide the implements and uniforms to a large staff of the institution that carries out operational work," he explained.
“This agreement, which will amount to 90 million pesos, contributes to the strengthening of both institutions, and consequently to the service that the government headed by President Luis Abinader offers to Dominican citizens,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Díaz Morfa highlighted the importance of signing the inter-institutional collaboration agreement through the General Directorate of the Military Industry.
“The Armed Forces thank the Ministry of Public Works for the trust placed in us, and at the same time we commit to delivering a finished product of high quality and consistency,” he stated.
Representing the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Minister Ascención was accompanied at the event by legal consultant Domingo Santana; Administrative Director Everis Rodríguez; and General Rafael Vásquez Espínola, director of the Military and Police Commission (COMIPOL).
