During the Expo Acero 2023 celebration, the urban transformation that Santiago de los Caballeros has experienced in recent years was highlighted, in addition to emphasizing the impact of steel, whose constructions, based on that metal, are becoming increasingly technical, according to structural engineers and architects participating in the event.
Civil engineer Félix Morel, general manager of the Carrujo company, assured that construction using steel is becoming more technical, which he said benefits and enhances the urban profile of the city.
He cited the construction of the monorail being built in the Heart City and other major road works that will have a great impact on the daily life of that area.
Luis Pérez Miniño, general manager of the company PH Mercantil, said that this material is used in many of the new structures in the city, both in financial and commercial buildings, after acknowledging the transformation that the city of Santiago is undergoing at the metropolitan level.
The specialists valued the infrastructure advances that Santiago has achieved, reaching a balance between urban development and sustainability.
For his part, Víctor Raúl Virella, manager of Steeltec, the company responsible for the Corominas clinic parking lot in Santiago, stated that steel "always provides a solution in the construction sector," which is why it is used in both industries and commerce, and is advancing in the residential area.
Expo Acero Santiago, organized by OptimoSTD Steel Detailing and the Dominican Institute of Metal Structure Construction (IDCEM), in coordination with the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), included delegations from Costa Rica, Turkey, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, the USA, Mexico, Spain, and Colombia.
Francisco Javier Duran, president of Optimo STD and organizer of the fair, reported that steel supports structures such as the Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago, the warehouses of the free zone parks of the region, tower E of the Unión Medica del Norte, the corporate tower of Asociación Cibao de Ahorros y Prestamos, among other metal structures.
He explained that Santiago was chosen to host Expo Acero because of its remarkable development in steel construction in recent years, as well as having structures that serve as an international benchmark.
