The organizations analyzed the challenges companies face in the face of increasing digital threats and shared experiences on the Spanish model of technological resilience
SANTO DOMINGO – The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic (CAMACOESRD) and NUMU Group held a business meeting aimed at strengthening the private sector's knowledge of cybersecurity, in a context where digital risks have become a growing concern for organizations of all sizes.
The event, entitled “Spain, a successful ecosystem in cybersecurity”, brought together representatives from the public and private sectors to analyze current cybercrime trends, the importance of prevention and the strategies that have allowed Spain to position itself as one of the international benchmarks in digital security.
CAMACOESRD, an institution that brings together more than 400 companies and promotes economic relations between the Dominican Republic and Spain, organized the meeting together with NUMU Group, a company specializing in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital transformation that works with public and private organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Cybersecurity as a strategic decision
During the opening of the event, the president of CAMACOESRD, Paco Pérez, highlighted that digital security has ceased to be an exclusive issue for technology departments and has become a strategic element within organizations.
“Cybersecurity protects much more than systems: it protects reputation, trust, and business continuity. At the Chamber, we are committed to placing this message at the forefront of the Dominican business agenda, because the organizations that understand this today are the ones that will be best positioned tomorrow,” he stated.
Participants discussed how digital transformation has expanded the exposure surface of companies to increasingly sophisticated threats, raising the need to incorporate digital risk management into decision-making processes.
The Spanish model of digital resilience
The main conference was led by Javier Marín, CEO and founder of NUMU Group, who presented the factors that have allowed Spain to consolidate itself as one of the most advanced ecosystems in Europe in terms of cybersecurity.
As he explained, this positioning has been possible thanks to a sustained national strategy, close collaboration between the public sector, academia and private enterprise, as well as a constant commitment to innovation and the internationalization of technological capabilities.
Marín pointed out that international frameworks such as the ISO/IEC 27001 standard and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework are part of the risk management structure of numerous Spanish organizations, contributing to strengthening the protection of their operations and digital assets.
A growing challenge for Dominican companies
During his speech, the specialist warned that digitization has increased the exposure of Dominican companies to increasingly complex cyberattacks.
He indicated that cybercriminals no longer distinguish between large corporations and small businesses, so any organization connected to the internet can become a potential target.
He also argued that the consequences of a security incident go beyond the loss of information or the disruption of systems, as they can also affect corporate reputation, the trust of customers and strategic partners, as well as the value of businesses.
In that sense, he considered that one of the main challenges for organizations is to move from a reactive to a preventive culture, through risk-based management models, continuous monitoring and greater participation of senior management in digital security issues.
Training and awareness
The day also included practical demonstrations by Julio Balderrama and Jafreisy Vargas, members of the NUMU Group team, who showed live examples of cyberattacks and explained some of the most common vulnerabilities that can affect companies.
During the exercise, attendees were able to observe the operation of different types of digital fraud and learn recommendations to strengthen information protection, reduce operational risks, and improve response capacity to potential incidents.
The organizers noted that initiatives like this seek to promote a greater culture of prevention within the business sector and contribute to the development of capabilities that allow businesses to face the challenges of an increasingly complex digital environment.
Technological cooperation between Spain and the Dominican Republic
The meeting also served to highlight the role of international collaboration in strengthening the region's technological capabilities.
Through its alliance with CAMACOESRD, NUMU Group promotes specialized training programs, knowledge transfer and technical talent development aimed at bringing experiences and best practices from the Spanish technological ecosystem to the Dominican and Caribbean market.
For the organizers, cybersecurity has become an essential component of business competitiveness, operational continuity, and business confidence—factors that are increasingly crucial in an economic environment marked by digital transformation.
