SANTO DOMINGO.- 17 of the 28 senators present at the session yesterday, Tuesday, approved the Dominican Republic Public Trust Bill in its first reading.
The initiative, proposed by Representatives Amado Díaz, Francisco Solimán, and Rosendy Polanco, aims to establish regulations for the Public Trust, including its organization, structure, and operation. It grants the legal capacity to manage public resources and to plan, manage, and execute infrastructure projects and services of collective interest.
The bill has already been passed in the Chamber of Deputies, so with one more approval in the Senate it would become law through the National Congress.
Dionis Sánchez, spokesperson for the senators of the People's Force Party, indicated that the Senate continues to say "yes sir" to all modifications that come from the National Palace or the Chamber of Deputies.
On January 12, the deputies approved several modifications to the bill, including spelling changes, changes to articles, and other issues.
For his part, Yván Lorenzo, spokesperson for the senators of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), stated that this project is an organic law.
The congressman submitted a dissenting report to the favorable one issued by the Special Commission that studied this initiative. Lorenzo's report was rejected by the majority.
