PUNTA CANA, LA ALTAGRACIA.- Grupo Puntacana announced the fourteenth edition of the Punta Cana Carnival, to be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, on Boulevard 1ro. de noviembre in Puntacana Village.
The grand parade will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the participation of more than 20 troupes and over 1,500 national and international carnival-goers, celebrating Dominican folklore and culture. An estimated 15,000 people, including locals and tourists, are expected to attend, according to a company statement.
During the event, the public will be able to enjoy the coronation of King or Queen Momo, the highlight of the festival gala. This distinction is awarded to prominent and influential national figures whose work inspires Dominican society. Previous King Momo honorees include Oscar de la Renta, Marcos Díaz, Michel Camilo, José Antonio Molina, Freddy Ginebra, and, most recently in 2020, Milly Quezada, the "Queen of Merengue," who was crowned the first Queen Momo in the history of the Punta Cana Carnival.
The Punta Cana Carnival is a free event open to the general public, and will have booths for those who wish to purchase their tickets at the Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village hotel, the Visitor's Center of Puntacana Resort & Club and at the Real Estate Sales offices in Galerías Puntacana, Puntacana Village.
This edition will feature live music, food trucks and entertainment in a safe and family-friendly environment.
About the Punta Cana Carnival
It is the most anticipated art and culture event in the eastern region. The cultural festival began in 2008 as an initiative of Grupo Puntacana, with the purpose of promoting the folkloric traditions of the Dominican Republic and the invited countries to thousands of local and international visitors.
Among the emblematic troupes of the Punta Cana Carnival are "Las Musas de Punta Cana", made up of a group of ladies from the community, who each year jointly design their carnival costumes, choosing a theme representative of Dominican culture.
The Muses of Punta Cana are accompanied by the Puntacana International School (PCIS) troupe, in which students and staff members parade in ingenious carnival costumes, symbolizing themes related to the environment and the country's culture. The Three Faces troupe, the protectors of the Muses, also participates.
The thirteenth edition of the Punta Cana Carnival brought together approximately 22,000 people, and was celebrated as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Grupo Puntacana.
