Punta Cana recognized as the “Best Latin American City” for meetings and events tourism

In Mexico, Punta Cana, in the province of La Altagracia, one of the most emblematic destinations of the Dominican Republic, was awarded the “Medal for Excellence in Meeting & Events 2024” in the category of “Latin American City”, awarded by the Latin American Conventions Magazine.

The recognition is based on a national survey conducted among organizers of congresses, business conventions, associations, chambers of commerce and tourism service providers, a distinction that reaffirms the destination's position as a leader in the meetings and events industry.

The selection process considered strategic aspects such as operational ease, high standards of cleanliness and safety, diversity in the hotel offer, quality of facilities and venues for events, support infrastructure, professionalism throughout the value chain, friendliness of local staff and technological tools available in the destination.

The high regard for Punta Cana's airport infrastructure and its road connectivity with other destinations were also key factors in obtaining this award.

The award reinforces Punta Cana's image as a world-class destination for events and meetings and is a testament to the Dominican tourism industry's ongoing commitment to providing exceptional experiences and high-quality services. MICE tourism helps to reduce seasonality in demand and improve the sector's profitability and sustainability.

The Mexican market continues to be a key pillar for the Dominican Republic, standing out for its sustained growth in the meetings tourism segment. This award further strengthens bilateral ties and reaffirms the destination's commitment to offering attractive, high-quality options for both corporate events and international congresses.

This recognition adds to a series of awards that highlight the country's excellence and commitment to the tourism industry and the MICE segment, consolidating it as the preferred option for event organizers and planners in Latin America.

Punta Cana is the most visited destination in the Dominican Republic, attracting approximately 52% of international tourists to the country. With a robust hotel infrastructure offering more than 43,000 rooms, many focused on the luxury/meetings segment, according to a press release from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).

Relsata points out that this destination has a wide variety of venues that allow for events of various sizes, thus increasing its appeal to the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector.

Air connectivity plays a fundamental role; the optimal conditions of the Punta Cana International Airport support the sustained growth of the MICE segment and facilitate the arrival of both organizers and international participants.
