The company Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) restored air traffic yesterday, Friday, at the Gregorio Luperón International Airport (AIGL) in Puerto Plata.
Operations at that terminal were closed for 10 days due to runway remodeling work.
The first of the six flights scheduled for the resumption of air traffic at AIGL was JetBlue flight 627. It landed at 12:28 pm from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
Subsequently, United Airlines flight 1078 landed from Newark; WestJet flight 2506 from Toronto; American Airlines flight 935 from Miami; Condor flight 2144 from Frankfurt; and Air Transat flight 944 from Toronto.
“We are delighted to resume operations at Gregorio Luperón International Airport, after having carried out a major repair and remodeling of the runway as part of our maintenance program,” said Carlos Rodolí Conde, the airport director.
He explained that the intervention will increase operational safety by improving road conditions, as well as maximizing its useful life.
