The provinces of Hato Mayor, Hermanas Mirabal, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega and Santiago are the demarcations that have more than 10 bridges in conditions of high intervention.
SANTO DOMINGO- After the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) conducted a survey to verify the condition of Dominican bridges, it was determined that 1,979 structures require intervention at different levels.
Deligne Ascensión Burgos, head of the state agency, said yesterday that "the need for bridge repairs in the country is great" because they lacked maintenance.
According to a survey called the "National Bridge Census", it was determined that of 2,655 of these structures, 1,979 require intervention at different levels, classified as high, medium and low, the minister explained while participating in an interview in the Listín Diario.
Of the number requiring intervention, 154 fall into the "high" category, meaning they need structural reconstruction, which has already been contracted, according to Vice Minister Ángel Tejeda.
While 479 require a "medium intervention" which includes a periodic review and are kept under observation to be put out to tender later because their condition does not present a danger to the vehicles.
The "low intervention" bridges total 1,346 and would require periodic maintenance such as painting and cleaning, among other details.

Those that require a medium level of intervention and do not pose a danger are mostly located in the provinces of Dajabón, Duarte, Espaillat, Hato Mayor, Hermanas Mirabal, La Vega, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Santiago and Valverde.
Likewise, the low-intervention structures are located in the provinces of Duarte, Espaillat, Greater Santo Domingo, La Vega, Monte Plata, Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, San Juan and Santiago.
