He called on the population to respect waste control, as this is the third time this year that the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has intervened in the port of San Gil.
SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported this Wednesday that it is carrying out a cleaning operation with more than 800 men on beaches, resorts, highways and rural roads throughout the country, in order to guarantee the enjoyment and safety of people traveling to recreational areas during the Easter holiday.
The Director of Road Maintenance at the MOPC, Demetrio Luciano, said that since March 4th, personnel from the institution have been carrying out cleaning and intervention work on these spaces in Greater Santo Domingo and the National District.
He explained that the entity will work every day of Holy Week, except for Friday, as it is a special day for all Dominicans.
“This Holy Week, we at Public Works began with a mass led by Minister Deligne Ascención for all of us who contribute and work on the streets; while people are peacefully enjoying their holiday, we are working so that they can enjoy clean beaches, highways, and safe roads,” he stated.
He explained that Güibia beach, the San Gil port and the Fray Antón de Montesinos monument are being cleaned by MOPC brigades, where they plan to collect an average of 400 to 500 bags of garbage.
Luciano said they have 800 men available to continue working throughout the week, except for Good Friday. “We collect between 60 and 70 truckloads of waste daily, and in this operation in Güibia, I understand that we will collect between 400 and 500 bags of garbage,” he stated.
He called on the population to respect waste control, as this is the third time this year that the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has intervened in the port of San Gil.
“Garbage arrives here constantly, since Dominicans dump solid waste anywhere,” he said.
He also asked people traveling during these days to drive carefully and take precautions, "because life goes on after Easter.".
