SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported this Tuesday that it is carrying out a comprehensive program of paving and pothole repair, as well as the construction and reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs and storm drains, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este.
Minister Deligne Ascención, during a supervisory tour of the works being carried out, said that these are part of the work carried out by the MOPC through the Vice Ministry of Road Maintenance throughout the country, and that in the specific case of Santo Domingo East, there are interventions in dozens of sectors.
In the Vista Hermosa urbanization, which includes streets with heavy vehicular traffic such as Guayubín Olivo, Ascención said that work is being done on the reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs and storm drains, as well as the paving of streets and the patching of others that have specific situations requiring intervention.
“In this area, we are responding to a request from the neighborhood association, which had made this request and told us that for more than 20 years the area had not had any type of intervention, and being an area where its streets were experiencing a high level of deterioration, so we have come to respond to it,” he explained.
The official also visited the Las Amapolas sector, where a community member expressed his gratitude to President Abinader and the Minister of Public Works for responding to their needs, adding that vehicle tires will no longer be damaged so easily because they will have paved streets.
Also in La Ureña
In the La Ureña sector, near the Las Américas highway, the MOPC is developing a comprehensive program of sidewalk and curb construction, to later proceed with the paving of its streets.
“President Abinader has instructed us to ensure that this entire area of the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, which we could call an expansion area, is given the dignity that the people who live here deserve, with streets and sidewalks, curbs, speed bumps and drains, and properly paved,” Ascención stated.
He said that with the supervision he is carrying out, “we are faithfully complying with the instructions of President Abinader.”.
Community member Oscar Florián, president of the Expresión Celestial neighborhood association in La Ureña, said that there are streets there that have had fill placed more than 10 years ago, “and we have sidewalks and curbs, all that's missing is the asphalt.”.
Tony Lovera, president of the neighborhood association, also said that in the 50 years that the neighborhood has existed, this is the first time that Amarilla Street has received serious work, "and we understand that it is a reality.".
He added that initially people in the sector had many doubts that nothing would be done, "because politically they always make promises, but in this case we are seeing that the government and Minister Ascención are giving us the answer in practice.".
The Minister of Public Works was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Road Maintenance, engineer Luis German Bastardo, and other officials from the MOPC.
