SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications, MOPC, reported that it has reopened vehicular traffic on all four lanes in both directions, east-west and vice versa, of the Francisco del Rosario Sanchez bridge (on 17th Street), which had been closed on Monday night.
He explains that the road was reopened to traffic after the repair of two expansion joints and the removal of steel elements that had come loose.
He explains that within the bridge maintenance program carried out by this Ministry, a specific intervention was carried out on the deck of the Francisco del Rosario Sanchez bridge (bridge la 17), which consisted of the repair of two expansion joints in the west-east lane, where steel elements that had come loose were also removed.
A steel plate was placed along all the joints to correct the faults they presented; work continued all night, and traffic was enabled early Tuesday morning.
He explains that these works will be completed during this week, and the population will be informed through the corresponding media of the day and time of the next intervention.
"All these works are carried out to guarantee the road safety of users, maintain the bridge in good condition and ensure the flow of traffic on this road," explains the MOPC, in a press release.
Reasons for the closure
On Monday, Public Works reported that it proceeded to close the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez bridge (17th Street bridge) to vehicular traffic starting Monday, January 20 at 8:00 p.m., in order to carry out repair work on the expansion joints, which show slight deterioration.
