SANTO DOMINGO.-The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, led a tour yesterday, Monday, of the provinces of Espaillat and Puerto Plata, with the objective of assessing the damage caused by the recent rains and promoting immediate response and reconstruction actions.
Accompanied by the director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), Olmedo Caba, the officials began the day in the community of Veragua, Espaillat province, where they listened to community leaders and local technicians about the impacts on road infrastructure, housing and production systems.
The official delegation continued its agenda in Puerto Plata with visits to the municipalities of Monte Llano, Imbert and Altamira, where they inspected collapsed bridges, damaged rural roads, flooded agricultural areas and compromised drainage systems.
Estrella said that they are evaluating several additional locations beyond those visited yesterday. “We are also seeing problems in Tireo and Manabao in Constanza, Jarabacoa, San José de Ocoa, and Joba Arriba, among other places, addressing these issues head-on. We have teams and technicians evaluating the situation to make the necessary corrections,” she stated.
The scope of the interventions will include road repairs, bridge cleaning, ravine cleaning, assistance to affected families and strengthening of hydraulic infrastructure.
