The ceremony to put these facilities into operation will take place in Barahona, starting at 11:00 a.m
SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) announced that next Friday, October 6, 2023, it will inaugurate its Southern Regional Office in the city of Barahona, with which it seeks to bring its services closer to more than 1,334,529 residents of the region.
Leonardo Reyes Madera, general director of Onesvie, highlighted that with this new facility the institution expands its reach nationwide and reaffirms its commitment to reducing seismic vulnerability in buildings, infrastructure and lifelines, to safeguard the lives of citizens and the national heritage.
He specified that five of the 60 schools located near active seismic faults in the Dominican Republic are in the province of Barahona. These schools were evaluated by Onesvie and will be reinforced by the Ministry of Education (Minerd). The schools in question are: Las Salinas, El Boquerón, Álvaro Olivero School, Anaima Tejada School, and Catalina Pou School.
The institution argues in a press release that it has worked hard to cover all regions of the country and currently has representation in Puerto Plata, Santiago de los Caballeros, La Romana and Santo Domingo, where its headquarters are located.
With its arrival in the Southern region, Onesvie seeks to directly manage citizens' service requests and continue working to achieve resilience in both public and private buildings in the area.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Zull Plaza, located on Luis E. Delmonte Street in Barahona, will feature the participation of the provincial governor, Genara González Mármolejos, representatives of civil society, public officials, and collaborators of the institution.
