SANTO DOMINGO- The Dominican Republic has 4,418,619 homes, of which 720,200 are unoccupied, according to statistics from the X National Population and Housing Census, offered yesterday Thursday by the National Statistics Office (ONE).
The ONE assigns the category of unoccupied housing to the housing unit that at the time of registration is not inhabited by people and that could be offered for rent, for sale, or simply uninhabited.
The investigation revealed that 3,689,348 homes are occupied; 9,071 were included in the category of collective housing, which are those used to house people subject to rules of coexistence and common behavior.
"In other words, collective housing is intended to serve as habitual accommodation for people subject to administrative subordination and obliged to comply with rules of coexistence by virtue of being related by a public objective or some common personal interest, such as reasons of health, discipline, order, teaching, religion, work, accommodation or social assistance," he explains.
