Nearly 7,000 people benefit from the government's land titling program in Santo Domingo Norte

SANTO DOMINGO.- "For us, housing policy is paramount, and that is why, through the Executive Directorate of the State Land Titling Technical Unit and the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), we are carrying out the largest titling plan this country has ever had," declared President Luis Abinader yesterday as he led the delivery of 1,727 definitive property titles to the community members of the Los Guaricanos sector in Santo Domingo Norte (SDN).

With the implementation of the land titling plan, more than 6,800 people benefited. In his remarks at the event, the president stated that he understands how "impactful" it is for the lives of Dominicans to be guaranteed a roof over their heads and their own land.

He said that he has spent the two years of his administration traveling throughout the country in search of "social justice".

"From now on, you will all enjoy the benefits that come with titled real estate ownership, such as the legal security of your plot or home, the increase in the value of your properties, which are already worth more from today, and you will be able to access formal credit through financial entities in the market, among other benefits," added the head of the Executive Branch.

For his part, Mérido Torres, president of the State's Technical Unit for Land Titling, indicated that the Government's investment for this delivery amounts to 258 million 960 thousand pesos, assuming a minimum payment of 80 thousand pesos per plot, these being of small square footage.

"These title certificates benefit families in the neighborhoods of José Francisco Peña Gómez, Ponce, Los Viajes, and Los Multi, in this Guaricano area, here in Santo Domingo Norte. I assure them today that they are now the legal and definitive owners of their homes and lots. The work carried out by the Technical Executive Unit, in conjunction with the Dominican Agrarian Institute, covered a geographical area of 587,767.70 square meters," Torres explained.

The official explained that there are another 2,000 definitive titles "signed" but that have not yet been able to be transferred to their beneficiaries due to various reasons, including determinations of heirs, conflicts between families or neighbors, the fact that the owners reside outside the country, among others.

He added that the State Land Titling Technical Unit has projects in 26 provinces and that in the province of Santo Domingo alone, 10 projects are being developed in Los Alcarrizos, La Victoria, San Luis, Guerra, El Almirante, Los Minas, Los Mameyes, Maquiteria and El Tamarindo.
