SANTO DOMINGO- Tourism Minister David Collado finalized an agreement Wednesday with German airline Condor to meet the demand for air travel from Europe following the cancellation of Air France flights this summer.
The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) stated in a press release that with the new partner for air transport services, a frequency of eight weekly flights in the summer and 10 during the winter to the Dominican Republic is guaranteed.
The agreement, signed at the ITB Berlin 2023 tourism fair, includes a one-year extension of the agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and the airline to begin covering Air France routes in the summer.
The agreement was signed by Minister Collado and Bernd Bechtel, Director of Airport Relations at Condor, at the event that began yesterday, Tuesday the 8th, and will continue until tomorrow, Thursday.
Bechtel said the agreement is part of Condor's commitment to the Dominican Republic, while Collado considered the agreement to be of "great importance" to the country, as it will help to begin covering the canceled routes.
"This is very good news for the country, so we appreciate this support from Condor," the minister said after signing the agreement with the German airline, according to the press release.
Mitur also reported that other efforts are underway to guarantee more flights from Europe in the summer to boost tourism.
